Student Visa

Due to the new regulation, Erasmus students may visit Turkey without a student visa, bu this rule changes country to country. PLEASE VISIT THE NEAREST TURKISH CONSULATE TO CHECK YOUR VISA NEEDS. Students, who are eligible to apply at SU and whose application is accepted, should apply for a visa to the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
Students are recommended to apply for a visa at least 2 months before the targeted academic semester begins.

Please kindly note that all international students who need a visa, should obtain their visa before coming to Turkey. Otherwise you need to go back to your home country to obtain the visa if you need a student visa, as Student Visa is not given in Turkey. 

Health and Insurance

Due to a new regulation, all exchange students need to have a valid health insurance, to be able to apply for the residence permit.

You can use your own insurance documents if you are an Erasmus student, and if the document meets the minimum requirements. If your insurance meets the requirements, you can bring it to our office for approval.

To make the insurance in Turkey: You need to make your own health insurance. For 2015 Fall semester, the insurance costs approximately 300 TRL for the students younger than 25 years old, and 600 TRL for the others.

If Turkey and your country has a social security agreement: You need to visit your social security office (not your private insurance company!!) in your country before you arrive. They will give you a document called "formular". You will get the Turkish Social security Office's approval to this document. You can use this approved formular as your insurance, in your residence permit application.

Sabancı University Health Center, comprising of a doctor, a nurse and a fully equipped ambulance, has the license to diagnose and treat patients, and serves the university community for 24 hours, 7 days a week. The University Health Center is available for use by all SU students.

Residence Permit and Online Appoinment

All exchange students must apply for a residence permit at İstanbul GÖÇ İDARESİ. Your RP appointment can be later than 1 month, but the date that you make the appointment has to be within the first month. Students cannot leave Turkey without having a residence permit. If this happens, they can not come back to Turkey in 3 months.

In order to apply, first you should get an online appointment.

Residence Permit Steps                                                 

A Residence Permit is an official document stating registration with the Directorate General of Immigration Management (Göç İdaresi). All international students, regardless of status, are required to apply for a residence permit within a month as soon as they arrive in Turkey. You cannot go abroad before you obtain the residence permit document. If you do, you will be put in the block list by a stamp on your passport which causes 3-months-of block to your coming back to Turkey.                                                  

You need to make an appoinmtment to Directorate General of Migration Management. Your Residence Permit document will be sent to the address you stated in your application, when it is ready.

PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO DEFINED DATES IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE MIGRATION OFFICE WITH ESN STUDENTS. (Will be announced)

STEPS:

1) Visit: https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr

2) Select/Enter: First Application

3) Enter Image verification

4) Choose “Student”

5) Fill the form (Phone: 02164839627)

6) Choose the school address as follows: Province: İstanbul District: Tuzla Quarter: Orta Mahallesi District: Üniversite Caddesi Block: 27P Single Space: 1. Ofis

7) Enter student number as - if you don’t know yet

8) Print the form and sign

Required Documents:                                                           

·       Residence Permit Application Form (Signed)

·       Original copy and photocopy of passport or passport substitute (the pages which are processed with the pages over which there are identity information and photo)

·       four (4) photos

·       Notification regarding sufficient and sustainable resources for the duration of their stay (Notified in the application form. Management may ask for supportive document.)

·       Student Certificate

·       Document to be taken from the institution they will study, which shows that he/she comes within the framework of "exchange programme"

·       Payment (To be made to Maliye Kompleksi Bostancı San.Sit. Değirmenyolu Sk. No.18 İçerenköy/ATAŞEHİR)

·       Valid Health Insurance ( Upon request of students, they are not demanded for valid health insurance as they are included general health insurance in 3 months as of the date of registry. However, they must inform administration in 3 months after they insure general health. One of following health insurances is enough.):

  •        The document that enables benefit from the health services in Turkey within the scope of bilateral social security agreements
  •        The certificate of authorization received from Social Security Institution
  •        Proof of application made for general health insurance to Social Security Institution
  •        Private Health Insurance         

Arrival to Campus

From European Side / By Public Transportation & Shuttle:

You should first go to 4. Levent from the Airport. Then from 4. Levent, you will take Sabancı Shuttle to our campus. Click here for the shuttle time table. We recommend you to exchange money while you are at the airport since you will need it to get on the transportation services.

* From Ataturk Airport to 4. Levent:

There are 2 options:
1) Istanbul Subway (M1A) – it costs approximately 5 TL. You should get off at the last station, Yenikapı. From Yenikapı, you
should take Subway M2 to arrive 4. Levent. Then from 4. Levent, you will take Sabancı Shuttle to our campus. Click here for the shuttle time table.
2) HAVATAS shuttles – (this bus waits in front of the terminal’s exit, it says HAVAS in big letters) it costs 17 TL.  (Paid on the bus)
In Taksim, you should take Subway M2 to arrive 4. Levent. Then from 4. Levent, you will take Sabancı Shuttle to our campus. Click here for the shuttle time table.

* From 4. Levent to SU Campus:

There is one option which is Gursel Shuttle (Sabancı University Shuttle)
On these shuttles, it says Gürsel in big letters. For timetable please click here.

Time: From 4. Levent to SU Campus, it takes approx. 90 minutes.

Cost: The shuttle costs 13 Turkish Liras per person; the payment is made on the bus upon arrival to campus.

* From European Side / By Taxi / Private Car & Bus

If you are planning to come with a private bus/car, please give the attached directions* to the bus driver.
Depending on the traffic, from the old city, it approximately takes 60 minutes to SU Campus.
Also, we have a shuttle service from Kadıköy and 4. Levent, below please find the timetable:

 * Below, there are directions to be given to driver in Turkish when coming from Europen side.

Atatürk Havaalanı yönünden gelirken:
İstanbul yönünden gelirken Fatih Sultan Mehmet Köprüsünden yaklaşık 38-39km sonra Şeker Pınar çıkışından çıkılacak.Gişelerden 400m sonra ilk sağa dönülüp düz devam edilecek. Bu sırada sağda Suzuki tabelasını göreceksiniz. Yaklaşık 150m sonra Shell Benzin istasyonunu görür görmez hemen sağa dönülecek. Düz yolu takip ederken 700m sonra solunuzda Opet Benzin istasyonunu göreceksiniz. Düz devam ederek otoyolun altından geçip BOSB girişini görür görmez ışıklardan sola dönülecek. Bankalar sağda kalacak şekilde 3 trafik ışığı geçildikten sonra Sağda Sabancı Üniversitesi görülür.

In addition here is an English version, so you can get a sense of how what the driver is doing:
From the airport, take the TEM freeway. After you cross Bosporus via the Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge you will drive for approximately 39 kilometers.  Exit the TEM freeway at the Seker Pinar exit (you will actually see the university from the freeway as the exit is a bit beyond the university).  400 meters after passing through the Sekerpinar tollgate turn right. You will see a Suzuki sign, keep going until you see the Shell gas station where you need to turn right. Keep on this road for 700 meters until you see the Opet gas station.  Keep going until you see the entrance to BOSB, then turn left at the lifts. There will be several training offices of banks on your right.  The entrance to Sabanci University is at the third traffic light. Welcome!

* From Asian Side / Kadıköy to SU Campus

There is a regular shuttle service from Kadıköy, on these shuttles, it says Gürsel in big letters. (Attached please find the logo of Gürsel) For timetable please click here.

The departure point is in front of Simit Sarayı which is next to Rıhtım Hotel.
Time: From Kadıköy to SU Campus it takes approx. 60 minutes.
