About The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a public research university established in 1991. The University is housed in a hillside and waterfront complex overlooking the Clear Water Bay peninsula, less than 30 minutes' driving time from Central Hong Kong. There are over 8,000 undergraduates studying for bachelor’s degrees and over 3,000 postgraduate students in master’s and PhD programs. HKUST has rapidly risen in the global academic arena and has ranked Asia’s number one in the QS University Rankings in 2013 and QS Top 50 Universities Under 50. City

Hong Kong is located in eastern Asia. It borders the South China Sea to the south, west, and east, and shares a land border with mainland China to the north. It consists of 4 main areas: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and the Outlying Islands. - The city which is a major gateway to China, is vibrant, colorful and attractive and becomes the favored city of China for science and technology as it has a robust intellectual property protection and legal system. - Hong Kong is a city full of impressive high rises, and a fusion of eastern and western cultures. Over the years, the city is remembered and known as ‘Asia’s World City'. Hong Kong is the world's most popular tourist destination. It is crowded but exciting for all visitors. As so many tourists say; is the most popular place to involve both eastern and western cultures, and participate traditional and modern life. - City’s some great attractions are; Victoria Peak- the highest point of Hong Kong islands, Lamma Island, Ocean Park, Man Mo Temple which is the oldest temple of Hong Kong, International Finance Centre, Po Lin Monastery located in Lantau Island. - There are so many shopping malls, department stores, boutiques, and street markets which bring all the world famous- brands together. In addition to this, there are so many leading international financial centers improving the global mobility and supports job creation and growth. -Hong Kong is also home to most popular universities such as Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong. Students from abroad can join so many activities from visiting temples to shopping. English is widely spoken in the country. Public transportation via bus, ferry or train is efficient, relatively inexpensive and user-friendly.

Application Details Application details can be obtained at http://advise.science.ust.hk/sfs/exchange/incoming/application-procedures Supporting Documents Required for Application - Official academic transcript (with English translation if necessary) - Photocopy of the photo page of the national passport Please check the fact sheet for detailed info. Min GPA 2.7 Science exchange students will have priority in taking science courses including chemistry, environmental science, life science, mathematics and physics. For courses offered in other schools, it will be subject to the availability of seats and approval of the course instructor. Science exchange students are allowed to take postgraduate courses subject to the requirements of the course pre-requisites (if any), the availability of seats and approval of the course instructor. Please note that science exchange students are very unlikely to enroll in postgraduate courses offered by other Schools, since they are with very limited seats or self-financed.
