1. Application Process
To apply, you must first be nominated by your home university. Once nominated, you will receive an email from Sabancı University with application instructions and a link to our online application system. Follow the steps carefully, upload the required documents, and submit
When completing the online form:
- Use the exact spelling of your name as it appears in your passport.
- Do not forget to fill out the passport number part.
- Double-check your email address, as all official communication will be sent there.
- Upload all documents in PDF and JPG format (for your photo).
- Submit your application once, and you will receive an email that contains an edit link so
- you may make changes to your application form until the specified deadline.

All incoming exchange students entering Turkey with a visa or visa exemptions are required to apply for a residence permit after their arrival. You will be informed by the IRO LEGAL Team before your arrival via webinar and during the orientation week about this process. *Turkish ID or Blue Card Holders are exempt from the residence permit application
The Student Resources Office issues acceptance letters after the submission of your application, depending on the announcement of the academic calendar. This typically occurs a few months before the semester begins. The letter will be sent to you via email and will also be available for visa applications.
3. Courses & Credits
Exchange students can take 2 to 6 courses per semester (10–30 ECTS). Most take 4–5 courses (20–25 ECTS) for a balanced workload. Always confirm with your home university to ensure you meet their credit requirements. A maximum of 18 SU credits can be registered. If the registration trial is done over this limit, the system gives a Maximum Hours Exceeded warning.
Browse the course offerings and course limitations on our website and discuss your options with your home university advisor. Make a preliminary list for your Learning Agreement. Final registration happens online before arrival, during the online course registration period.

4. Preparing to Depart
- Arrange your visa.
- Prepare travel insurance valid in Turkey.
- Book your accommodation (if staying on campus, complete the dormitory applicationonce you receive instructions).
- Bring belongings.
- Check luggage limits and pack according to the season.
5. Dormitory Application & Move-in
Once your Sabancı University account is created, you will receive dormitory application instructions by email. Submit your application by the specified deadline. You will be placed if you submit your application.
You may move in from the official move-in date announced by us on our important dates (often a few days before orientation).
No, there are no scholarships available for on-campus accommodation for exchange students. However, exchange students are exempt from the dormitory deposit fee.
